If you are planning to construct a pool or remodel it, you are in for some exciting times. However, it also can be stressful. The new pool with improved landscaping and other such things can add value to your home. Today there are many financing options for construction of swimming pools in your homes and also for extending it or remodeling it. As you consider installing a pool, you should know the stages of pool construction, so you know what to expect.
The stages of pool construction start by digging up where the pool will be placed, and finishes with a final inspection. Here are the stages that happen from start to finish:
This is the starting point of any pool construction process. The hole that is digged up will be larger and deeper than the actual size and depth of your pool. Once the digging is completed, the pool will be lined with steel rebar.
City inspectors will visit the pool construction site once the steel rebar has been installed. They also will review the pool plans and have a look at the job site. They will do so to ensure that everything is done as per the code. This will take you to the gunite phase.
Concrete makes up the major part of the shell of the pool. The steps are applied in a pneumatic fashion. If you plan to have fountains, gunite spa or swim-outs these should also form a part of this phase. The next is the strip and backfill phase. The gunite should be allowed to dry and then the backfilling should start around the braces and walls. In some regions, you might be required to go in for elevation survey. This is done by the surveyor once the landscape and deck are complete.
Plumbing installation is the next step, and it involves digging of trenches for laying pipe from the pool to the pool equipment. This again will require inspection and approval from the authorities. Before decking and placing are done, there is a need to level out the place and then prepare for the patio. Tile crews will also install the waterline of the pool and coping. The next step is deck installation and this will be followed by applying the right tile finish or rock finish.
There are some responsibilities on the part of the homeowner. These include landscape, sod, fencing, and having alarm and sprinkler systems in place. These things must be installed before the final inspection is done, and the fences must meet the building code of the respective regions and counties. The elevation survey must be done by the surveying company and if you have existing fences the same must be inspected once again.
This phase is all about removing any trash that construction activities could have created. It also involved the final grading of the swimming yard. It also will involve the installation and inspection of the electrical equipment
There could be a few more steps like plastering and other such minor jobs, but these can be completed throughout some of the stages mentioned above. Each of the stages of pool construction should be done correctly the first time to avoid problems later on. Don’t skip the inspection, as it’s important to have a pool installed correctly.
